Crisis
Editor's Statement
Crises are everywhere. We grow up surrounded by them—small, often unnoticed at first. Sometimes we act; other times, we turn away, pretending not to see, or observing from a distance as others suffer. Occasionally, we confront these challenges together, but often, we find ourselves alone, questioning why things seem so incomprehensible. Yet, with each new crisis, we are caught off guard.
We tend to treat crises as if they are unnatural interruptions in our daily lives, convincing ourselves that they are rare and unwelcome rather than acknowledging them as integral parts of our existence.
This issue of Paprika! invites you to explore the nature of crisis and reflect on the ways it shapes our lives. Crises vary from the vast challenges confronting our planet to the subtle struggles we experience within ourselves and our communities. This collection features stories, lessons, and creative expressions that celebrate the clarity and catharsis crises can bring.
Within these pages, you’ll find a manual on How to Have a Good Crisis, examining our responses: preparation, response, adaptation, and reflection. We aim to highlight that crises aren’t merely events to endure with feelings of helplessness; they can also serve as moments of growth when reflected upon thoughtfully.
We wish you the quiet strength that comes from facing your crises head-on, even when your instinct is to flee. We hope you find meaning in these experiences—whether alone or with someone by your side. Together, let us uncover the beauty that can emerge from our most challenging times.
Best,
Millie, Yuval, Rizek
